3 inspiring ideas to accessorise white interiors this Spring

19th May 2021

Spring is arguably one of the most welcome seasons of the year for most of us, as we finally bid a long-awaited goodbye to the dark and chills of winter, and revel in the brighter and warmer weather. That means it’s a fantastic time to change up your interiors too, something we’ve recently covered in our post about 4 easy ways to bring Spring into your interiors. That post should have given you a good few ideas as a starting point, such as switching out your sofa covers – but what about accessorising?

Now, you’ve got no shortage of options initially when it comes to accessorising. Sometimes it can help to categorise all your available options, and think about which ones of them you’d consider changing. So for example, you can look at:

  • Your furniture, such as tables, coffee tables, pouffes, settees, sofas, footstools etc
  • Your draperies, blinds and curtains
  • Your bookshelves, plants, ornaments and similar items

Those are just a couple of initial ideas. Ready to explore a few things in more detail?

Consider complementing colours

It’s not hard to see why white decor is a particularly popular option in Spring – it’s light, airy, and makes the very most of the sunshine. But if an all-white colour scheme leans too far towards being bland or dull for you, you can spice things up a bit with pops of colour here and there, such as a splash of mustard yellow in your soft furnishings – including cushions, blankets or throws. (One of the main reasons why yellow is such a good fit is because it blends nicely with white, but also provides warmth and vibrancy to the space.) In fact, it’s an excellent choice for a sofa or rug, both of which can serve as wonderful focal points for your living area.

If you’re not a fan of yellow for whatever reason, navy can provide a nice alternative. When paired with white it creates an appealing calm and collected vibe – perfect if you want a laid back but sophisticated space. The same combination can be used to create a distinctively nautical feel too, if that’s your kind of thing.

Mull over metallics

Using metallics can be an excellent way to give the space an extra layer of subtle character and texture, especially if you’re already broadly happy with the colour scheme. Incorporating metallics like silver and gold can help to give a contemporary and luxurious feel to a white or neutral space, making it bang on-trend. Gilded lamps for example can make a wonderful centrepiece, while an ornate gold mirror can give a beautiful sense of elegance to an otherwise blank wall.

Silver and gold are far from your only options though! There are plenty of alternative colour options for your metallics. Metallic pink or blue for example can add an additional layer of fascinating visual intrigue to your space, giving it a sense of personality that’s wholly distinct from more traditional colours like silver and gold.

Copper is another popular option, and one that’s brilliantly well-suited to giving a sense of warmth and character to a space. There’s no shortage of opportunities to incorporate it – you can use copper accents in vases, lamps, side tables and ornaments. A copper clock is often an attractive and understated way to incorporate metallic copper tones into your interiors. You’ll probably find that it works especially well with darker colours like black or midnight blue, creating a stunning contrast that makes a real statement to any visitors!

Don’t forget about florals

What better time of year could there be for incorporating some nature-inspired elements into your living space? Florals prints are highly versatile – you can choose bright colours to add more vibrancy to your space, especially if you’re a fan of more neutral tones, or darker and richer greens to anchor your interiors. Your cushions, soft furnishings and draperies are all excellent candidates for floral prints, and if you’d like you can add extra texture through real plant-life too. A vase of bright flowers, or a tall green succulent in the corner, can each make their own distinctive mark on your space.
