What happened to Multiyork?

The company went into administration in November of 2017. By that time, it had cemented its reputation for creating quality sofas and furniture which were the perfect fit for living rooms, dining rooms and similarly comfortable environments all over the UK. In many ways it was a classic British success story, having first been founded in 1978 in Mellis, a small village in Suffolk. The company soon had an ever-growing base of customers across the UK, and in 1992 Multiyork moved to larger premises in the centre of Norfolk.

By 2000, Multiyork was producing as many as 1000 pieces of furniture a week, and was renowned nationwide for the quality of its craftsmanship. It even ran its own in-house sewing apprenticeship scheme to pass on these skills to newer generations of employees, helping to maintain its famously high standard of craftsmanship.

And while the company might no longer be trading, that reputation lives on – and with good reason, too. On average, people tend to keep their Multiyork sofas for 15 to 20 years. They’re comfortable, cosy and stylish, and although you may only be able to get second-hand ones these days, they’re still treasured by their owners.
