How to give your lounge a spirited summer spruce up

So, here’s how you can gan give your living room a spirited summer spruce up!

Decrease, dispose and declutter

To kick things off, begin your journey to a clean living room by clearing everything away. Many of us are prone to leaving clothing in piles, or have coffee tables overflowing with bits and bobs. A cluttered room can lead to feelings of stress, and a good tidy away can leave us feeling refreshed. So, if your items have a place where they live specifically, place them back in their spots, and if you’ve got too many magazines, coasters and knick-knacks that aren’t really serving a purpose, then take steps to liberate yourself from them. You might even want to try selling them, or binning them as a last resort!

Pick yourself up, and dust your lounge off

Coffee tables, lamp shades, lights, shelving and so on; they’re all prime positions for dust to gather. By dusting off your surfaces, you remove irritating allergens, and reduce the likelihood of experiencing symptoms laid on by these pesky particles. This is a particularly useful practice for anyone suffering from hay fever or asthma, and dusting also removes other contaminants from your area, like dust mites. The best way to dust off your surfaces is generally with a microfibre cloth, as the tiny follicles will help you to pick up all the dust particles. Never use a wet cloth – it might seem counterintuitive, but the wetness just eliminates the grippy properties of the cloth, and instead just spreads the dust around.

How to clean your sofa

By giving your sofa a regular clean, you drastically improve its lifespan, as well as keep it looking fresher for longer. We’d recommend a regular cycle in the washing machine for your covers on about sixty degrees to kill off all the bacteria, as well as a full hoovering of all the cracks and crevices of your sofa to suck up any excess crumbs that might’ve gotten in there.

As an added tip, we’d recommend giving your sofa a spray with an enticing essential oil and water mix to add an extra layer of luxury to your sofa. Plus, not only is essential oil antibacterial, but the scent helps relax you. For a winning combination, we’d recommend adding 10 drops of lavender essential oil to water in a spray bottle.
