How to make your sofa cosier than ever this Christmas
Ah, Christmas. There’s rarely a cosier time of year, which makes it the perfect time to invite family and friends over to enjoy festive activities. Your sofa might look pretty cosy already, or you might decide that it could do with a tiny bit of sprucing up to get it through the festive season. We’ve got a couple of tips that could help right here at Cover My Furniture, ranging from new sofa covers to something a little different. Here are our top suggestions!
Bespoke sofa covers
You knew this one was coming first! The look of your sofa plays a big part in its appeal. Old worn-out seating areas tend to be (not universally, but often) uncomfortable and unpleasant to use, which is especially the case for damaged and dirty loose sofa and chair covers, so it may be time to upgrade before Christmas arrives. Happily, sofa covers provide a quick and easy way to spruce up your sofa. Rather than completely reupholstering your sofa, a new sofa cover can give it a fresh new look, wiping away any stains or marks. Best of all, if any new ones get made (which is probably likely with all the red wine and chocolate around at Christmas), then you can simply remove it and wash it, leaving it looking good as new once again.
Using scented candles
Although this doesn’t affect the sofa, using scented candles does help add to the surrounding environment. There are various different types you can use that will help create a cosy feeling. It’s up to you whether you want to try a scented candle designed specifically for Christmas or one that is great no matter the season. However, judge the scent carefully – you don’t want it to become overpowering, especially if it turns out that one or more of your family or visitors isn’t too keen on the smell!
This article wouldn’t be complete without the mention of cushions and blankets, both of which help make sofas feel extra comfy. It’s recommended to find cushions and blankets that are made of different fabrics to add contrast. Not only do extra layers add to the comfiness when sitting down and relaxing, but they also make the area look more exciting from a distance.
Lighting is another major aspect that can change the dynamics of a room. If candles aren’t really your thing, then you could use mood lighting instead. There are many soft lighting fixtures that can transform how your sofa and chairs are viewed. Even large rooms can be changed into a snug place that all can enjoy over the Christmas season. If you want to provide mood lighting, make sure to remove any harsh lighting to capture the comfortable atmosphere you’re looking to achieve.
To prevent the dark gloomy weather from dampening the Christmas spirit, curtains are perfect to keep the cosy atmosphere. Although blinds provide a good alternative, curtains are known for their soft fabrics that create a relaxing environment. Not to mention that thick ones help trap heat to keep the temperature just right. The best approach would be to try matching the sofa colour with the curtains. This produces a stylish area that can improve the overall appearance of the room.
Filling wall spaces
Adding some personality is another excellent way of making a seating area more appealing. Blank walls are known to negatively impact how an area feels. Pictures of art or family members that hang on the wall would be a fine addition. Worried about damaging your walls? There are plenty of options available that provide homeowners with the ability to hang pictures or other things without needing nails.
Rugs are a popular choice for many sofa areas, especially for those that have wooden flooring. They provide extra warmth while looking aesthetically pleasing, the perfect combination creating a cosy space. As a general rule, thicker rugs tend to offer the most comfort!
