The many uses of yellow – how to style up your living room

14th July 2022

With the sunshine finally making an appearance here in the UK, you might be thinking about bringing some of that outdoor vibrancy to your living room! Yellow in general is known to have a positive impact on the way we feel, which is why everything feels that little bit more optimistic and bright when the sun’s out. Here at Cover My Furniture, we’ve got a range of loose sofa covers in yellow to help you bring those positive vibes to your living room space. However that’s not the only way to introduce a vibrant, yellow aesthetic to your living room!

Yellow armchairs

Introducing a refreshingly yellow armchair to your living room space is a fantastic way to add a pop of colour to your lounge. For a more classic, contemporary look, consider a Chesterfield inspired armchair with a luxury cotton weave – ochre cover to add an understated injection of yellow hues to your living room. Or, you could fill an empty space with a loveseat which you can share with that special someone. Both of these options work amazingly if you’re looking to bring a yellow element to your lounge, and can be accessorised with deep blue cushions for a nice balance.

Add little touches with yellow accessories

Even the smallest injection of yellow can make a big difference to the feel of a space. Warmer hues immediately makes a room feel brighter and more welcoming, so by adding a little bit of yellow here and there, you can completely change the atmosphere of your living room. Try experimenting with different scatter cushions and throws as a way of adding subtle injections of yellow to your lounge. What’s more, don’t be shy about playing around with different shapes and textures to add extra layers of character to your space.

Create a killer combination with blue

As we’ve touched on above, the calming feel of blue compliments the optimistic tones of yellow superbly. By introducing yellow elements to a blue living room, and breaking it up with hints of bronze and copper, you can add a significant amount of warmth to an otherwise cool scheme.

If you’re familiar with the colour wheel, you’ll note that they sit opposite each other on it. Generally speaking, colours that sit opposite each other on the colour wheel tend to complement each other beautifully, because they stimulate different parts of the eye simultaneously. If you’re not totally up to speed on the colour wheel, don’t worry – we explore some of the details on our post on ‘How a great colour scheme can make your lounge pop’.

Create a vibrant focal point

If you’re looking to be bold and really make a positive impact on your space, we’d recommend you use yellow to dress up your sofa. This choice always makes for a fantastic conversation starter, and can immediately draw the eye of anyone who entered the room. Consider using luxury velvet – sunshine, and trust us when we say that you won’t need anything else to transform your lounge into the ideal space to recoup and re-energise!

A yellow sofa offers a delightful contrast when placed in the centre of a more classical design scheme, and looks fantastic when placed against more traditional elements such as a brick feature wall. So, if you’re looking to turn your sofa into a bold, yellow centrepiece, you’re in the right place. We offer a wide variety of classical and contemporary sofa and chair covers to suit any style. If you’re still making final decisions on a certain design or you’re looking for something in particular, don’t hesitate to let one of us know!
