And while lots of people opt for sofas in various bold colours, it’s also easy to see why the very lightest sofas – including grey, white and cream – are so popular. It’s essentially like placing a blank canvas at the heart of your living room ideas, with all the challenges and rewards that entails.
Here at Cover My Furniture, we supply fitted sofa covers in a range of similar colours, so we’ve got a few ideas to help kickstart your interiors inspiration!
Let the form and shape of your sofa take centre stage
Lots of homeowners choose cream and white sofas because of their association with contemporary style, and a sense of cool sophistication. But as you may have already realised, that decision requires striking a very delicate balance between the shade of your sofa and the shade of its surroundings. If they end up looking too similar, it can be all too easy for your space to end up looking a bit flat and lifeless.
If you’re also thinking about a new sofa, one good way to sidestep the danger of an underwhelming effect is to choose a sofa with a particularly distinctive physical shape, such as one with beautiful details like curves, buttons, or fluting. Even in relatively muted surroundings, what this does is draw the eye directly to your sofa, allowing it to fulfil its role as the centrepiece of your room, and preventing the entire space from feeling too anodyne.
Bold shades and patterns can provide extra personality
One of the most effective ways to make your space stand out is probably one that’s occurred to you already, and that’s to contrast a colour like Luxury Cotton Weave – Regency Grey with surrounding pops of colour. (Generally, it’s easier to start sparingly and work your way up, rather than do it the other way around, but ultimately whatever works best for you!)
As for how to incorporate these pops of colour, there are all sorts of possibilities. You can use soft furnishings for example, like scatter cushions or rugs. Curtains are another popular alternative, as are surrounding ornaments or wall art. And if you’re still deciding on what colours you’d like to choose, it can often be helpful to think about exactly what sort of atmosphere you’d like to cultivate for the room in question.
White and cream colours can be paired with cool colours like blue for a relaxing, laid-back colour scheme, or you can opt for various tones of green if you want to feel that little bit closer to nature. Purple can be used to add a touch of luxury, whereas tones like orange or red can make the space feel more energetic.
Create depth with an off-white sofa for a pure white room
If you’ve got your heart set on a clean white colour scheme, this is one that’s going to take a particular bit of care. As you may have seen before, it’s easy for pure white rooms to end up looking a bit washed out, and possibly even a little dull. One of the best ways you can avoid this is to add a bit of extra visual interest and depth – not necessarily with colours like we’ve outlined above, but with off-white shades like our Luxury Velvet – Pearl fitted sofa covers. This weave has a very subtle texture that’s pleasant to the touch, giving it a cosy and inviting look while adding some nicely understated visual interest to the space as a whole.
That’s just one example though – you’ll probably be able to find plenty more amongst our range here at Cover My Furniture. Best of all, whatever colour you choose, you’ll be able to enjoy the same key benefits – namely that they save you from having to spend too much time on your hands and knees, scrubbing away at marks and stains on your white or cream sofa. Our covers are machine-washable so whenever it gets a little messy (and let’s be honest, it probably will), you can simply remove the cover and put it straight through the wash. Problem solved!
Here at Cover My Furniture, we take care to provide a comprehensive range of sofa covers, chair covers and more in a wide variety of colours to choose from, encompassing everything from red and orange to blue and yellow – and plenty more!
